Shocking video has emerged showing a California law enforcement officer attempting to handcuff a man who had already sat down to surrender, before punching the man and threatening witnesses who tried the video camera with his gun. Witnesses say the officer had gone too far with his usage of excessive force and profanity.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Friday afternoon in Vallejo, California after local law enforcement officers responded to an emergency call claiming a male individual was acting ‘crazy’ KPIX reports.
Several witnesses claim the initial law enforcement officer who arrived first on the scene chased the unarmed suspect for several minutes until the man surrendered and sat down in the middle of the road.
The responding law enforcement officer then allegedly pushed the man to the ground before trying to place handcuffs on him, the suspect appeared to struggle with the officer, according to witnesses.
“The kid surrendered,” one witness, who declined give his name, told KPIX. “The cop, on the other hand, came up right behind him and he was tired too. But he immediately dove on the kid and started wailing on him.”
Video footage of the incident shows the law enforcement officer punching the suspect with his fists and later a flashlight, while the suspect repeatedly shouts “I am God, I am God.” A witness in the crowd of onlookers can then be heard yelling “police brutality” just off camera.
The California law enforcement officer appears to reach for his firearm while shouting individuals in the crowd to “get the f**k back!”
According to the Daily Mail, Vallejo police said Internal Affairs is currently reviewing the video to investigate the officer’s use of profanity and the arrest in general.
