Late Saturday evening, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana law enforcement officer was shot dead during a shootout inside of a barber shop that left the alleged gunman wounded.
The Sheriff’s Office deputy from East Baton Rouge Parish was shot just before midnight during an investigation at the Classic Cuts shop, the Daily Mail reports.
According to law enforcement officials, the Sheriff’s deputy was investigating a domestic disturbance when the shootout occurred. The unidentified police officer was taken to a nearby hospital where he died due to his injuries.
Gunfire started to erupt while two sheriff’s deputies were conducting an investigation near a barber shop in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Fox6Now reports.
“It’s a tragic night for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office,” EBRSO spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said. “We’re focused on working with the family, praying for the family and making sure that our deputies have the help and support that they need.”
Corey Amundson, acting United States attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, issued a statement Sunday pledging to “devote whatever federal law enforcement resources are necessary to ensure that justice is served,” NOLA reports.
