SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Dragon capsule full of cargo from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Air Force Station towards the International Space Station, however, the rocket malfunctioned on its return to Earth and missed its landing.
“Grid fin hydraulic pump stalled, so Falcon landed just out to sea,” SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted. “Appears to be undamaged & is transmitting data. Recovery ship dispatched.”
SpaceX was attempting to land the Falcon 9 rocket along the Cape Canaveral coast, but as the booster maneuvered into position for the landing, it lost control and started spinning, NBC News reports.
“Engines stabilized rocket spin just in time, enabling an intact landing in water! Ships en route to rescue Falcon,” Musk said in a social media post.
